Multicap Tasmania came in to existence in 1971 after parents of children with severe disabilities
complained about the lack of services for their children in Tasmania.
After a dynamic fundraising effort, the parents purchased multiple sites from 1974 to 1978 on
West Mooreville Road to create the Multicap Heights Centre.
The majority of services provided by The Society were established with the support of Multicap's Quests which operated from 1973 - 2000.
Burnie Group Home was originaly "Fairwinds" that was established by the Parents and Friends Group, which was sold and the existing larger home was purchased.
Houses in the North were established with the assistance of Caring Parents, a sub-committee of Multicap Tasmania that still actively provides support to the homes.
