Alastair McEwin is Australia’s Disability Discrimination Commissioner, working for the Australian Human Rights Commission. He is based in Sydney, and was in Burnie on Tuesday morning attending a gathering hosted by Speak Out, where he detailed his role, spoke about how Australia’s was tracking in meetings is Human Rights obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act, and took questions on a range of issues from the audience. The session was attended by advocates, service providers, support networks and some Tasmanians living with a disability.
In the afternoon we were fortunate to host Alastair for some time as he visited our Head Office, toured our new Home development site at Somerset, and then visited our services at Panorama and Westwood. We appreciated the opportunity to host this visit and have invited Alastair to visit us again during future visits to Tasmania.
