Over the last two years we have seen extensive growth in numbers attending our Community Access programs in the Launceston area, and as a result of this growth we now require new premises. We have simply outgrown our existing facility at Blaydon Street.
In addition to being too small, the Blaydon Street site was challenging due to its configuration being small rooms, rather than a more flexible open space. With this in mind, we have been looking for a new site and, after a false start last year, have settled on a new location at 31 Tamar Street.
This new location was most recently a motorcycle shop but will be completely repurposed and transformed into a vibrant open plan environment. We now have an approved Development Application from the Launceston City Council and aim to have the internal fitout completed in the next six weeks, with an aim to be in the building around the end of April.
The new location will bring many new opportunities for our Launceston Hub, with much more capacity to provide programs and activities at the base, as well as the base being in very close proximity to the Inveresk precinct including QVMAG, as well as City Park, and the CBD being only a few blocks away. The new venue will have an extensive IT infrastructure, including the provision of Video Conferencing that will link in with our Burnie and Devonport offices.
We look forward to meeting our Launceston participants and their families at our new facility in the near future.
