Honouring Trevor Hodge

This week, we honour the life and legacy of Trevor Hodge – a visionary, advocate, and the founding force behind what we now know as Multicap Tasmania.

In 1971, Trevor and his wife Maureen gathered a community of parents and carers in Burnie who shared the same deep concern: what would happen to their children with disabilities as they grew older, in a world where support was severely lacking?

That meeting became the spark that lit a movement. From that moment forward, Trevor dedicated his life to building something that had never existed in Tasmania before – a supportive, inclusive organisation that would grow to empower thousands of people living with disabilities across the state. He became Multicap's first employee, serving as Executive Director for 14 years and overseeing everything from our early fundraising efforts to the purchase of land and development of our first facilities.

During our 50th anniversary celebrations in 2021, Trevor shared a heartfelt message reflecting on those early days and expressing his gratitude to the staff, supporters, and community members who have carried his vision forward.

That message, captured on video, remains just as powerful today. In it, Trevor speaks of the importance of community, the strength found in persistence, and the pride he feels seeing how far Multicap Tasmania has come.

We’re proud to share this footage once again – not only as a tribute to Trevor but as a reminder of how far we've come thanks to the foundation he laid.

Trevor’s legacy continues to live on in every service we offer, every goal we help someone achieve, and every act of inclusion we stand behind.
